Families in need of shelter should call IHN as early in the day as possible. Our phones open at 8:30 am. Call 216-771-9600 for shelter. You do not need a referral from another agency:
IHN serves families with dependent children and teens: single mothers, single fathers and couples with children under 18 years year old or who are expecting a baby. We also serve pregnant single women, and on a space available basis. Guest families are welcome in IHN for 60 days. The program is open 24 hours a day, everyday of the year. Not only will IHN provide food, shelter and transportation, but it will help you find housing, work, public benefit programs, day care and other things you need to get back on your feet. Families needing help must call 216-771-9600. Inquiry calls are welcome Monday thru Friday, 8:30AM – 5PM. Morning calls are preferred. A social worker will introduce the program to potential guests and conduct a short phone interview. If guests meet the basic criteria they will be invited to the office for an interview so the family can learn more about IHN and IHN can learn more about the family. This interview will be scheduled the same or next day depending on your situation. IHN conducts a drug and alcohol screen and guests agree to remain drug and alcohol free during their stay. We also perform a criminal background check and the type and recency of offense may affect your eligibility. IHN requires birth certificates, photo id’s, social security cards, immunization records and a recent TB test for each guest. IHN can help guests procure these items after you enter the Network, if necessary. If you are approved for admission you must enter the same or next day. Given demand for shelter we cannot hold space for you when other families are in need as well. IHN keeps a waiting list as well.
